I believe everyone has seen a layer of silver metal veneer on the surface of rubber and plastic insulation material, that layer of veneer is aluminum foil. Rubber and plastic insulation material is a polymer material with excellent thermal insulation performance, why should it be compounded with a layer of aluminum foil? What's the relationship between the two?
Aluminum foil has the characteristics of reflecting and rebounding heat, which can reduce the transfer of heat. In addition, aluminum foil has strong weather resistance, waterproof, moisture, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance and other properties. However, the thermal insulation performance of aluminum foil itself is relatively poor, and it needs to be used together with thermal insulation materials to achieve good thermal insulation effect.
Rubber and plastic insulation materials are foam closed cell structural materials made of rubber and plastic, with good thermal insulation, waterproof, flame retardant, sound insulation and noise reduction performance characteristics. However, its high temperature resistance is relatively poor, and its durability is relatively poor, and it is not suitable for long-term exposure to the sun.
As we all know, there are three ways of heat transfer: conduction, radiation and convection. The role of aluminum foil and rubber insulation material is to prevent the escape of heat. When we look at rubber and plastic insulation materials, we will notice that there is a thing called R-value on their packaging. It measures how much heat the rubber and plastic insulation material transfers per meter of the material used. The R-value does not measure radiant heat, which is the primary mode of heat transfer. This makes the R-value a controversial measurement.
Radiant heat is the heat in the air, and aluminum foil can block up to 97% of radiant heat. Radiant heat accounts for about 75% of a building's total heat loss or gain. Rubber and plastic insulation materials and other insulation materials can be very good at reducing convection and conduction heat, but can not reduce radiant heat. This type of heat is either absorbed or reflected.
When rubber insulation materials and aluminum foil composite products set their own advantages, and make up for the shortcomings between the two, it can be said to complement each other. Aluminum foil veneer rubber and plastic insulation material has better thermal insulation performance, corrosion resistance, flame retardant high temperature resistance, sound-absorbing sound insulation, aging resistance and other performance characteristics. Widely used in construction, pipeline, petrochemical, industrial and other fields.
